John Whitbeck is the founder of Whitbeck & Associates, P.C., now Whitbeck Cisneros McElroy, P.C., where he is a partner with three other attorneys. The firm provides legal services to families and businesses and John’s passion is helping individuals impacted by mental illness. The firm is built around a belief that balancing work and family is most important, and almost all of the attorneys and staff are working moms.
John earned an A.B. in Politics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. While at Occidental, John was a starting tight end and offensive lineman on the NCAA-affiliated football team, a member of the Occidental Rugby Club, and served as the President of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. John attended law school at George Mason University where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and the Trial Advocacy Team.
After graduating cum laude from George Mason, John started his career working as a lawyer in Leesburg and immediately looked for other ways to serve the community. As an Adjunct Professor, John helped re-start the George Mason University Law and Mental Illness Clinic to provide pro bono legal representation to the families of mentally ill individuals needing psychiatric treatment. John also regularly represents children with disabilities in special education cases in Virginia.
John has served on the Board of Directors of the Loudoun County Bar Association, as the At-Large Representative to the Loudoun County Government Reform Commission and as the Broad Run District Representative to the Loudoun County Criminal Justice Board. He served as President of Lansdowne on the Potomac Homeowner’s Association and on its Board of Directors, was appointed at age 29 to be a Substitute Judge in the Loudoun County Courts and is a member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
John has appeared on and been quoted in various national and local media, including ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, Fox Business, MSNBC, NPR, Leesburg Today, Loudoun Times Mirror, Richmond Times Dispatch, Roanoke Times, Virginia Pilot, Washington Post, and Winchester Star.
